Laser Hair Removal in Coventry

Enjoy smooth skin without the hassle of shaving or waxing, thanks to the long-lasting effects of laser hair removal. Because the laser targets the hair follicle directly, it can also help reduce ingrown hairs and the skin irritation that comes with them.

Built-in cooling keeps discomfort to a minimum, which makes hair removal a quick and efficient process.

I'll design a treatment plan around your skin, your hair and the areas you want treated. Over a course, laser hair removal gives long-term hair reduction, so you save time and money on shaving, waxing and frequent salon visits.

Laser hair removal is one of several treatments at my laser and IPL clinic in Coventry, alongside laser tattoo removal and the carbon laser facial.

Treatments are for clients aged 18 and over, and every new client starts with a consultation.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

The laser's light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and turned into heat, which disables the follicle while leaving the surrounding skin alone. A follicle only responds while its hair is in the active growth phase, and only part of your hair is in that phase at any one time. That is why you need a course of sessions, spaced weeks apart, rather than a single treatment.

Dark hair responds best. Blonde, grey, white and red hair has too little pigment for the laser to target, so if laser isn't the right choice for you, I'll tell you honestly at your consultation.

  1. Consultation and patch test

We talk through your hair, your skin and any medication you take, then patch test the area so the settings are right for you before your course begins. Both are free.

  2. Before each session

Shave the area the day before. Avoid sunbeds, sunbathing and fake tan for two weeks beforehand, and arrive with clean skin, with no lotion, deodorant or make-up on the area.

  3. On the day

You wear protective eyewear while I treat the area with a cooled handpiece. Small areas take minutes: underarms take a couple of minutes, and even a full back is done in under half an hour.

  4. Between sessions

Shave if you need to, but don't wax, pluck or thread, because the root has to stay in place for the laser to reach it. Use SPF 50 on treated skin. Treated hairs shed over the following couple of weeks.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Sessions Will I Need?

Everyone's hair is different, so your plan is set at your consultation. As a guide:

6–8 sessions for most body areas

8–10 sessions for the face, or where hair growth is hormonal

4–6 weeks apart facial hair returns faster than body hair, so face sessions are closer together

Minutes, not hours a couple of minutes for the underarms

Hormones can make hair stubborn, particularly on the chin and upper lip, so facial courses tend to be longer. An occasional top-up session later on keeps your results at their best.

Laser Hair Removal for Darker Skin

Darker skin needs a different approach, because the pigment in the skin competes with the pigment in the hair. The platform I use has a long-pulse 1064nm setting designed for darker skin tones, which reaches the follicle while protecting the surface of the skin, and contact cooling keeps the skin comfortable throughout.

If you have Black, Indian, South Asian or Middle Eastern skin and have been told elsewhere that laser hair removal isn't for you, book a consultation and patch test. We can see how your skin and hair respond before you commit to a course.

Laser Hair Removal for Men and Women

I treat men and women, including sensitive areas. Popular areas include:

  • Upper lip and chin
  • Cheeks and sideburns
  • Between the brows
  • Neck and beard line
  • Underarms
  • Arms and hands
  • Bikini line, Hollywood and Brazilian
  • Half and full legs
  • Chest and stomach
  • Back and shoulders
  • Full body

You can book a single area or a package covering several. Sessions start from £30, and block booking a course of 6, 8 or 12 sessions brings the price per session down. I'll give you the full price for your plan at your free consultation.

If fine, downy facial hair is the issue rather than dark regrowth, dermaplaning removes it along with dead skin cells, and can be added to one of my clinical facials.

Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal gives permanent hair reduction rather than total, permanent removal. After a full course most clients have far less hair, and what does grow back tends to be finer and lighter. Hormonal changes can activate new follicles over time, so an occasional top-up session keeps your results at their best.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Most clients describe a warm, snapping sensation, like a rubber band flicked against the skin. The handpiece cools the skin as it works, which keeps discomfort to a minimum, and I adjust the settings on more sensitive areas.

Can you do laser hair removal on dark skin?

Yes. Darker skin, including Black and Indian skin, is treated on a long-pulse 1064nm setting designed for it, and a free patch test at your consultation checks how your skin responds before you start a course.

Is this IPL or laser hair removal?

IPL uses a broad spectrum of light, while a laser uses a single, focused wavelength. The platform at my clinic has both light-based and laser settings, so I can choose the one that suits your skin and hair rather than fitting you to one machine. We decide which is right for you at your consultation.

How do I prepare for laser hair removal?

Shave the area 24 hours before your appointment. Avoid sunbeds, sunbathing and fake tan for two weeks beforehand, and arrive with clean skin, without deodorant, lotion or make-up on the area. Don't wax, pluck or thread at any point during your course.

Can I have laser hair removal if I have a tan?

Not straight away. Tanned skin has more pigment competing with the hair, which raises the risk of a reaction, so wait at least two weeks after sun exposure, sunbeds or fake tan. Tell me at your consultation about any recent tanning, and about any medication that makes your skin sensitive to light.

How much does laser hair removal cost in Coventry?

Sessions start from £30, depending on the area, and block booking a course of 6, 8 or 12 sessions brings the price per session down. Your consultation and patch test are free, and you'll get a full price for your plan at that appointment.
